On the way from Sarria to Portomarín. Galicia is still fresh and green, cloudy sky and wonderful 17 degrees Celsius (November 1st). Yesterday I deliberately left the girls group and ate a hamburger with egg and bacon and two cold beers. Heavenly quiet hours. I also wrote a long message to my Canadian friends. I asked myself whether there is something wrong with me because I am so often looking for solitude, but I rejected this thought again. Yesterday loneliness just felt too good. And there will be a time again when I want to escape my loneliness and look for closer company. As always, of course, it also depends on the people. And on the situation. Anyway, yesterday was a very good day. I slept for an hour in the afternoon and another 9 hours at night. This morning I woke up and looked at the watch, it was 4 o'clock something. Then I wondered why so many people had to go to the bathroom and when I checked my watch again, it was already 7 a.m. Didn't even notice that I fell asleep again for almost 3 hours.
At least now I would say that it doesn't matter whether I arrive in Santiago with company or alone. It's the opposite of last time: I am not afraid of loneliness.
Chatting a little in French with Remy (29 years old), the accordion player. Lived in Germany for a year and three months and was on the road with an orchestra. I think near Freiburg. Le pay est beaux. Pluie = rain, défi or something similar = challenge. [Neige = snow, nager = swim.] The chat was quite short because he paused at a food stand (donativo) and sat down with this Belgian guy with his bracelets. Mais peut-être à tout-à-l'heure.
Read again "Arbeit und Struktur" by Wolfgang Herrndorf. The first thing I notice is that he writes very precisely, second thing I notice is his sense of humour, which makes me crack up. I didn't notice that so much the first time. Our opinions about Günter Grass differ, but that's okay. By the way, he also read Proust.
